THE BRIDGE TO INNOCENCE AND SAFETY
Autumn, 2018

The Bridge of Innocence and Safety is a series of figurative paintings and chalk drawings that has been in development since 2008, investigating the status of representational painting today and its relation to the technological post-human eye. Young employs a pastiche of iconic migrant imagery set against digitally mediated works by Giuseppe Castiglioni, an Italian Jesuit Missionary to China in the 1600’s. The series explores historical resonance, transculturality, political asylum, trauma, melancholia, speed and displacement.
