THE DOUBLE GROUND PAINTINGS
1995 – present

An investigation

"Narratives, patterns, marks digitally printed on the background; areas of painted generic photographic images in the foreground.

The paintings are worked from all four sides. The structure aims to make you feel as if the images in the foreground and the background have belonged together all the while – a sort of necessary dependency. This diabolical structure may naturalise the foreground into the background, or mimic the way that resonance can determine our everyday attitudes towards images."
